What’s been good and difficult about being a parent to adult children?

I remember one of our sixteen-year-old sons got a spanking with a rod when I (Ruby) chased him around the house. He knew I meant it, but I think he won. I remember one time one of our sons moved home after he had graduated from high school, had a full-time job, and we felt it only fitting that he pay a little rent of $50 per month to help him realize life was not “free” and had responsibilities when you had a job. He sure opposed our idea and never paid us. We never insisted and let it go. Another son came and lived at home for a short time, also had a good job, and we never insisted on rent. Sometimes you see your younger adult children do things that may not be wise. You just have to shut your mouth and let them suffer the consequences. We have been blessed with our sons. They have turned out pretty well with the decisions they have made in life. Now, they are the ones advising us what to do…we usually listen because they know best.
