What were your favorite courses in college? Did you write a thesis in college?

Noel

I would have to begin by saying that the most favorite were my history courses. I (Noel) have always loved history, so I decided to make history my major. What I enjoyed most were the early American History classes. I guess I was really interested in our founding fathers and why they came to America, and all the struggles they had to go through. They made great sacrifices. Sadly, so many today want to do away with that part of our history. I was able to complete my major in history at the end of my Junior year of college. I also liked Psychology. With my history major completed, I loaded up on Psychology classes my Senior year and was able to get enough classes to complete my Psychology major. Not the best way to do it.

I did not have to write any thesis to go along with my majors. Neither did I have to write any thesis in any of my seminary classes. Just a lot of term papers.

A foolish thing I did was to get a minor in Greek. Foolish, because Greek in college was classical Greek which is somewhat different than Biblical Greek. A lot of Greek words and meanings had to be relearned when I got to the Seminary. Even now, when I remind myself that I have Greek for a minor, I ask, WHY?

Ruby

I (Ruby) really don’t have much to write on this topic since I was only in college for one and one-half years. I was a music major hoping to pursue this field in some form of teaching. I loved my music classes and was the only girl in the class of eight boys. I also took Organ and Piano lessons from one of the professors. I did some piano accompaniment for the vocal teacher as well.

Because of the short time I was at Dana, I didn’t have to write a thesis. I took some secretarial classes, which I used in some of my jobs to help support Noel in his schooling. Through the many years of being a mom, I played piano and organ at church and gave piano lessons in our home. I am thankful for those music classes. I am grateful for my experience in college. Without that experience, I never would have met my wonderful husband of 60 years, Noel.
