For Noel: His ritual never changes. He has poor sleeping habits but finally gets up at 4:45 a.m. Puts his coffee on and invites the Lord into his day. He reads various devotional materials until 8 or 9 a.m. He has memorized hundreds of scripture passages through the years and refreshes himself, adding new ones to his list. He reads from both the Old and New Testaments daily and has short devotionals from the internet or other reading materials. When preparing for a sermon, he spends more time on the topic he is preparing throughout the week. He spends time in worship and prayer alone and then together with me, which is rich and helps bind us together in our marriage. We pray for each family member and their needs and those locally, in our church, and the world.
I (Ruby) don’t get up quite as early as Noel…probably about 6:00… then head out to walk with LaDonna outside for 45 minutes… if the weather is unbearable, I do it inside… Noel does some exercise inside but would rather mow the lawn twice a week for his exercise. I also spend time in God’s Word, Old and New Testament, and different devotional books. I try to memorize scripture, but I find it more difficult than Noel. I like to read Christian books that are based in the Word that help me grow. And again, we join together in prayer.
We both have a light breakfast of oatmeal, or eggs, bacon, and toast. I like different changes than Noel… yogurt, fruit, and granola. It’s fun to have a variety.
