Before going to Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, our families knew each other. Noel’s dad served a congregation in Ruskin, Nebraska, and the church was located in the country on the land my grandfather had given to build a church. We lived in California at that time but came to visit my grandparents and family periodically. I remember Noel as being a young kid running around the church with the other boys. When my parents visited his parents in Minden, Nebraska, I noticed his Senior picture on the piano and thought about how cute he was. I also knew that he was a college Senior and I would be a college Freshman….thinking he would never notice me… I guess I was wrong.
First Date…Going to a Christian college, I believed that all the kids there were Christians…..wrong!! I was disappointed because I thought that I could find my future husband in that environment. I dated a few guys, but none appealed to me that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Noel was mainly friends with senior guys and gals and had a girlfriend…and again, I thought I didn’t have a chance. After breaking off the relationship with his friend, he asked me for a date to go to chapel. I gladly accepted, and we enjoyed our time together. It felt important that he had looked at me as a freshman after dating a senior for quite some time. This started our good and lasting relationship together. Because of our family bond and our bond together in the Lord, I knew this was the man I would love to marry if it was God’s will.
